Start spreading the news...

In mid-2015, I moved to New York City. Having spent my formative years singing along to Les Mis and Rent in my pajamas, one of the things I was most excited about was being able to see shows - on Broadway and off - any time I liked.

But life got in the way. Myself (and my fiancé, Sideshow) were busy with work and settling into a new city. And despite my best intentions to undertake the work and research necessary to see performances regularly without having to donate my eggs to finance it, I never once lined up for rush tickets or found myself at the TKTS booth in Times Square. By the end of the year, I felt I had squandered my first precious months in New York City - at least in this respect.

So my New Year's Resolution for 2016 (which automatically applies to Sideshow, often to his chagrin) is to see at least one show every week for the whole year. As of May 2016, Sideshow and we have seen 19 shows - Broadway, Off-Broadway, opera, dance, live music, jazz, circus, and even one extremely confusing public speaking competition. Some great, some crappy, all memorable.

Through this blog I will be documenting our progress toward this 52-show goal for the year, providing some non-expert reviews and reactions, and sharing some thoughts on arts and lifestyle in New York City (read: I'll visit every bar in the Theatre District so you don't have to). And most of all I hope to hear from readers about what's worth seeing, and what you wouldn't buy tickets to for your ex who gave you mouth herpes, in order to continue making the most of everything this fantastic city has to offer!

Thanks for reading

xx Show Off

P.S. People have wildly different reactions to the level of ambition we set for ourselves... some people  don't think a show a week is a lot, others think we're crazy and will never manage it. How often do you get along to a performance?
